Don’t Forget the Icing! Revising with Joy

Class Description

A cherry on top makes all the difference. After we finally finish a piece of writing, we can be tempted to hit the “submit” button and move on. But what happens when we hold off, allowing space for our creations to flourish? How can we view familiar writing with new, wise eyes? We’ll taste inspiration from Barbara Kingsolver, John Hough, Zadie Smith and William Yeats while fine tuning our own strategies. Writers will leave feeling enthused about revision, seeing how rewarding and delicious it can be. Optional: bring an excerpt or short piece of your own work to play with.

Class Format

This class will take place in-person at our Center for Creative Writing in Boston's Seaport neighborhood.

Scholarship Information

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
