Class Description

The podcasting renaissance offers writers a novel way (pun intended) to connect with audiences: by transforming written narratives into auditory experiences. If you've penned a novel, short story, or even a series and are intrigued by the realm of podcasts, this workshop is tailored for you.

Turning written content into an engaging auditory experience is an art in itself. In this course, participants will navigate the nuances of adaptation, ensuring the heart and soul of the novel remain intact while making it resonate in an audio format. Through an exploration of soundscapes, voice casting, pacing, and episodic structuring, we'll delve into the essentials of creating an immersive podcast that holds listeners captive.

Interactive sessions will guide writers in breaking down their novels into episodic chunks suitable for a podcast series. We'll tackle challenges like conveying inner monologues, effectively using sound effects, and choosing the right narrator voice. Moreover, students will be introduced to the technical aspects of podcasting, from basic recording techniques to publishing platforms.

Class Format

This class will take place in-person at our Center for Creative Writing in Boston's Seaport neighborhood.

Scholarship Information

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
