Class Description
In “On Writing,” Stephen King defines “talent” like this: “If you wrote something for which someone sent you a check, if you cashed the check and it didn't bounce, and if you then paid the light bill with the money, I consider you talented.”
We can quibble with this definition, but the fact is, it’s is the dream of most writers – to roll out of bed, stumble to their desk still in their pajamas, and spend the day at their computer, working on fun and interesting projects that pay their bills. While only a handful of people can make their living from literary writing alone, the happy truth is that there are thousands of freelancers across the country earning good incomes – often stretching well into the six figures – from their writing. All it takes is lots of hard work, an almost insane level of persistence…and some idea about how to get started.
This practical one-day class will teach you how to seek out lucrative, unadvertised writing opportunities in high-demand sectors like technology, healthcare, business, and even the nonprofit world. We’ll also focus on how to quickly build up a portfolio of clips, even if you don’t have any experience writing for publication. Writers will leave with a concrete plan for how to use their unique strengths, experiences, and interests to being making money from their writing – and, if they stick with it, to build a freelance career.
