Class Description

Writing a romance that feels genuine is important if you want readers to believe your characters’ love story. In this class, we’ll delve into the intricate tapestry of romantic relationships and discover the secrets to constructing unforgettable romantic pairs. Whether romance is the main focus or a subplot of your story, this class is for you! From that first “meet cute” to enduring love, we’ll uncover the nuances of developing romantic love on the page through character development, chemistry, and conflict without falling to cliché. We’ll have engaging discussions, thought-provoking writing prompts, and insightful assignments so you can discover how to breathe life into your characters and kindle their romance. We’ll also review excerpts from a variety of genres and authors, including Andrew Sean Greer, Emily Henry, Casey McQuiston, Akwaeke Amezi, and David Yoon.

Romance is for everyone – whoever takes center stage in your story and whatever kind of love you want to explore in your story — this class will equip you with the tools for creating believable chemistry and tension on the page.

Please Note: This class does not meet on November 23rd (Thanksgiving Day).
