Class Description
Are you writing a young adult or middle grade novel and need weekly deadlines to keep you moving forward? This eight-week online YA/MG novel writing workshop is open to writers at all draft stages and experience levels. The main goal of the course is to generate new scenes or revise existing scenes. Prior to the start of class, each student will select 3 mentor text YA or MG novels of the student’s choice (please select novels published within the last 5 years and read them before the start of class). Each week, you will complete exercises and respond to prompts relating to your selected mentor texts, complete weekly writing assignments, and engage in craft discussions within cohort groups. Each student may also take advantage of the opportunity to have one polished YA/MG novel excerpt workshopped by the class and instructor. Students will leave the class with at least six new or significantly revamped novel scenes. Please know that students should expect to devote 4-5 hours/week to this class.
*NOTE that while our handy dandy "Schedule" tab states a 6-7pm class time, there are actually no live meetings for this class! Weekly lessons and assignments open each Wednesday. Students will receive an invitation to Wet Ink, our online class platform, before 5pm on the first day of class.
