Class Description
This course is designed for students who are actively engaged in writing an MG or YA novel. Craft topics to be covered include scene structure, ending arcs, and the query letter as well as the reading and analyzing of passages from published works. However, the main focus of the course will be on workshopping student manuscripts. Students will have the opportunity to share a substantial amount of work in class (between 25-45 pages). This class is designed for intermediate writers who have previous workshop experience and a project underway. You will be expected to have material prepared for workshopping as well as to do reading of fellow students’ manuscripts outside of class (up to 10-30 pages) and be prepared to offer feedback. By the end of the course, students will have a firm grasp on how to apply the craft lessons and feedback to their full in-progress manuscript. A week before the first class, the instructor will email instructions for sending their first set of workshopped pages to the group (please check your spam filters and contact Grub Street if you do not receive an email one week before class).
This class will be hosted using live Zoom meetings! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! If you have questions about remote learning, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for more information.
