Event Description
The Candid Conversation Series is a space for instructors to reflect and process workshop and teaching experiences (the good, the bad, and the ugly) candidly with one another. We will share and learn from one another in a confidential, supportive space.
Session 2: Selecting and Discussing Texts Skillfully for Workshop
Have you been excited to use a text for a workshop, but not been sure how to discuss it or unpack it for students? Have you experienced challenges when discussing texts in class? Have you experienced students or participants responding to texts in ways that seem harmful or challenging? Have you wondered, “What can I do to support students in their learning and understanding of texts?” How do we thoughtfully balance helping students to engage a text while also cultivating a culture of respect and care in classroom discussions?
If you have faced challenges here and want to sit with some like minded folks to process these moments, please come to Candid Conversations: Session 2. We will share and learn from one another in a confidential, supportive space and consider tools that may be useful. We’ll come together to think through these moments, offer support, and see if folks are open to advice/suggestions from others.
This event is for GrubStreet instructors only.
