Class Description: It’s a tradition for the Teens at the BPL to have an annual open mic, and even with social distancing, the show will go on!
Bring a short piece to read for up to two minutes, or just come to cheer on your fellow teens! Work doesn’t need to be polished or perfect. In a supportive environment, we’ll gather to celebrate our creativity and speak our words out into the world. For those who are shy about reading their own work, students can send work in advance to be read by one of our moderators. We’ll also celebrate with random giveaways and treats. Hosted by JR Mahung, beginners and experienced writers/performers welcome!
This is the last part of a three-part series—two practice sessions on June 3rd, June 10th, and an open mic on June 17th from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Teens can participate in one, two, or all three events! And any teen can perform during the open mic event, whether or not you’ve attended the practice sessions.
Who Should Register? For teens ages 12 to 19.
Registrants will receive a Zoom link via email prior to the session start time. Presented in collaboration with the Roxbury, Mattapan, and Egleston Branches of the Boston Public Library.
This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
Zoom Participation:
Students are not required to turn their camera on, but are encouraged to participate any way they feel comfortable through functions such as the live chat, emoji reactions, and unmuting the microphone. Learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
We ask that instructors enable closed captioning and send a transcript of the session after class. You can also enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting. If your instructor forgets to send the transcript, just send ’em an email!
