Class Description

Experiment with new ways to write, giving form to your memories and experiences. We’ll use different versions of singer/songwriter/activist Violeta Parra’s beloved song “Gracias a la vida,” made famous by Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa, to explore style and narrative voice. This free bilingual writing workshop will be given in both English and Spanish and is open to anyone with any level of writing experience or skill.

Families welcome. Coffee and snacks provided. Teens are welcome to attend with an older relative. We will provide simple activities to keep young children occupied.

This class takes place at the Boston Public Library's East Boston branch, 365 Bremen St, Boston, MA 02128. If you have any difficulty signing up online, please call 617-695-0075.


Gracias a la vida | Voz narrativa y estilo

Experimenta con nuevas maneras de escribir para darle forma a tus propias experiencias y recuerdos. Haremos una exploración de la voz narrativa y el estilo a partir de una discusión de diversas versiones de la canción muy querida de Violeta Parra, compositora, cantante, y activista, “Gracias a la vida,” hecho famosa por la cantante argentina Mercedes Sosa. Este taller de escritura gratis será dado en inglés y español y es abierto a la participación de todos sin importar su nivel de experiencia o habilidad de escribir.

Son bienvenidas las familias y los adolescentes que asisten con un padre u otro pariente. Hay café y meriendas. Proveeremos actividades sencillas para entretener a los niños.

La clase tomará lugar en el sucursal East Boston de la Biblioteca Pública de Boston,365 Bremen St, Boston. Cualquier dificultad para inscribirse en linea, favor de llamar a 617-695-0075.

Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
