Class Description

This course has a very clear mission: devote three hours of your life to writing. Through a series of fun, directed, in-class writing exercises inspired by short published texts, we will explore the terrain of fiction and nonfiction (and perhaps a little poetry, too). Via these writing prompts, we'll find ideas and situations with dramatic or literary potential; write detailed and sensory description; construct characters, settings, and vivid dialogue; play with the sound of language; and help you find your voice. We will discuss the process of writing and the strengths and weaknesses of the work we produce in class. A supportive and generative experience for both new and practicing writers. Note that this is not a course in the fundamentals of fiction, nonfiction or poetry, but an opportunity for beginners and advanced students to begin to generate material for new work.

Note: This class will take place at Ada Books, 717 Westminster Street, Providence RI 02903.
