Class Description
New and emerging authors may have more opportunities than ever in the marketplace, but, when it comes to publishing and marketing our books, we all still face systemic biases, truisms that are no longer true, and a publishing industry that is notoriously change-resistant. As writers serious about our craft, we are all in this together, and we need a new approach to making sure our books are well-published and that they find an audience beyond our own ethnic groups or "other people like us." In this provocative keynote conversation, literary agent Regina Brooks will help us build that manifesto, relying on the help of prominent industry professionals and, most importantly, audience members. We anticipate a lively, honest and interactive conversation, and, by the end of the hour, a better understanding of the state of the marketplace and its potential for becoming a true mirror of our experiences and imaginations.
