Class Description
"Let us go to the school of writing"
- Helene Cixous
The writing process is filled with many states of being. There are times when we are ready, in love, and passionate about writing and there are times when we are unsure, cautious, and temperamental. What do we think about when we write, or are about to write? How do we meet ourselves where we’re at, and how does our sense of self-worth serve us? This seminar is an invitation to explore the writing process with writing companions Carl Phillips, Awaeke Emezi, Audre Lorde, and Helene Cixous. We’ll read a section, essay, or entry of their work, and then process their words for ourselves with writing prompts and generative exercises.
Along the way, we will experiment with writing ourselves affirmations and cultivating loving kindness so that we can write more consistently and confidently.
