Class Description
In the preface to his anthology The Business of Memory, Charles Baxter writes, “What we talk about when we talk about memory is – often – what we have forgotten and what has been lost. The passion and torment and significance seem to lie in that direction.” What have you forgotten in your life? What are the moments that keep sliding out of reach? In this seminar, participants will respond to prompts designed to help plumb the depths of memory with the hope of discovering material they might not otherwise consider. Craft lessons in perspective, point of view, description, and voice will be instrumental as students shape their memories into prose. By the end of the class, students will be closer to having mastered, in Baxter's words, "the art of remembering in an age of forgetting."

In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
