Class Description
Poet, essayist, and Black feminist Audre Lorde teaches us in “Uses of the Erotic” that there is power in understanding and living in accordance with what makes us feel most alive. This class invites us to get in touch with our sensory world and to explore pleasure as a map towards liberation and more expansive creative expression.
Through somatic and written exercises, we will cultivate a creative space that welcomes eroticism and sensuality as rituals of empowerment. We will anchor ourselves in the works of Audre Lorde, adrienne maree brown, June Jordan, and several other liberatory texts and poets across time. Participants will excavate their personal power through pleasure and poetry in this generative writing workshop. This class is great for those hoping to build a connection with their body, senses, and environment in ways that can enrich their creative writing practice. Session 1 will consist of reading, discussion and somatic exploration of erotic/pleasure-centered texts. Session 2 will build on somatic and sensory exploration in ways that inspire creativity and poetic expression.
