Query Me This: Demystifying the Submission Process

Class Description

I’ve written an amazing book, why do I need to care about a query letter? What’s the difference between a summary and synopsis? How do I write a log line? Are comp titles really that important? Where do I even look to find agents who might like my work?

For writers interested in traditional publishing, unfortunately, a polished final draft isn’t the last step. This workshop aims to both demystify the querying process and provide students with a manageable “to do” list to help them through this next step of their publishing journey. At the end of the workshop, students will have a working draft of a query letter and a log line for their current project, as well as a handout of best practices in finding an agent.

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!

Scholarship Information

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
