Class Description
Ever wonder what goes into writing and publishing a picture book? In this workshop, you’ll get a solid overview of this challenging but rewarding genre, geared to children ages 3 to 8.
First, we’ll discuss key craft elements such as theme, story arc, characters, length, and language; and learn about the all-important relationship of words and pictures. We’ll look at a range of successful picture books, including Watercress, The Rough Patch, The Other Side, and Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type. Next, we’ll tackle some common questions about the picture-book publishing business, including: Do you need an agent? What about self-publishing vs. traditional publishing? Who does the illustrations and how does that work? Finally, the instructor will share some details about the writing and publishing of her award-winning picture book, Charlotte and the Quiet Place. There will be time for Q&A.
Aspiring picture-book writers will leave with practical information and resources for how to get started with confidence and clarity.
