Class Description
If you have ever wondered where your story(ies) really fit in the world of children's literature, this seminar is just for you! Led by author Beth Raisner Glass, this seminar will finally help you determine what kind of children’s book you want to write (or have written) from picture books to YA. The class will be both lecture and experiential. You will leave with many handouts to hone your craft and an opportunity to share your work with the instructor before leaving.
If you have written something already, you may submit a picture book manuscript or one chapter of your work as a sample ahead of time to [email protected] with the subject heading "Grub Street class." Specific feedback on your work will be addressed during class. If you wish to be anonymous, simply leave your name off the submission. Students who haven't yet tried their hand at writing will have an opportunity to write in class as well.
Bring two of your favorite children's books (any genre/age) to class along with a note card summarizing why the book resonates with you.
Bring a notebook or laptop and pens/pencils.
Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
