Class Description
Character is not just something you add to a story: it IS the story itself. Therefore, the process of creating characters can be intimidating. In this class, we will learn to simplify that process by implementing four pillars that make up a memorable character: the core, internal struggle, the unexpected, and decision-making. Each week, we will use the discussion board, reading, and exercises to illustrate each of these easy-to-understand pillars and demonstrate how you can infuse your characters with new life, no matter what kind of writing you’re doing. You’ll come away from the class with concrete, immediately usable strategies that will make an instant difference in your work.
New or intermediate writers will gain the most from this course, but advanced writers are very welcome too. This class is geared toward fiction writers, but the concepts apply to multiple genres, so all are welcome.
*Please note that while our handy dandy "Schedule" tab states a 6-7pm class time, there are actually no live meetings for this class! Assignments and deadlines will be given by your instructor. Students will have access to the online class portal starting at 5pm on the first day of class. Instructions for logging onto the online portal will be emailed to registered students before 5pm the first day of class.
