Class Description

This is a facilitated writing group designed for accountability and community building. An instructor will be present to facilitate and offer general guidance, but this is not a writing class, and it won’t involve craft lessons or in-depth feedback on your writing. Please check out our hundreds of writing class offerings for those features! These groups are a great option for anyone who’s at work on a project and looking to set aside some time each week to make progress on their writing and connect with others.

You sit down before the glowing screen: your pulse quickens, your breath catches. You've been here before. Maybe you've even dreamed about it. You face a whiteness that cajoles and threatens. Its emptiness is thick with the static crackle of anticipation. Your attention calls it into being, but once called, it rarely obeys. If a blank Word document feels as scary to you as any ghost, the Haunted Café beckons—if you dare!

This group is for writers of any genre and experience level who are interested in exploring all things spooky and surreal, and looking for community and (low-key) accountability in their practices. Whether you're a seasoned horror devotee or just curious about expanding your writing into stranger realms, the Haunted Café is for you.

We'll dedicate 90 minutes a week to writing in a supportive and welcoming environment. We'll ask questions, seek advice, and share snippets of our work, all while the instructor curates a focus-friendly playlist. There is no required reading or pre-work—just show up!—and each session will begin with a prompt designed to get you thinking about how to incorporate different genre themes and approaches into your work. Together, we'll develop tools to help make the writing process itself feel less frightening than our spooky subjects.

Note: This class skips on October 17th.
