Event Description
As A.I. finds its way into our culture and institutions, concerns have emerged about its potential impact on writers, their livelihood, and what it means to be an artist. In this introductory panel discussion, moderated by writer and GrubStreet community member Angie Chatman, two experts in the field will discuss what A.I. is and isn’t, some fundamental ethical and socio-cultural questions to keep in mind, its drawbacks and benefits, and how we might expect the use of the technology to evolve.
Our panel includes Sarah Newman, Director of Art & Education at metaLAB at Harvard University, and Rediet Abebe, a computer scientist and Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows. Whether you’re worried about or skeptical of A.I., an avid user and proponent, or simply curious about its impact and influence on writing and pedagogy, this event will provide some illuminating facts and layered views to kick off this important conversation in our community.
There will be a pre-event reception with refreshments from 6-7pm. Please make sure to register for this free event!
