Class Description
Would you like to build a sustainable poetry writing practice? Consider joining this short but generative seminar, tapping into the everlasting spring of creativity that is ecological storytelling!
Taking an ecological approach to poetry writing and storytelling involves honing our experiences and embracing relationships, community, belonging, home and the bonds we have to Earth.
As a class, we’ll discuss Marilyn M. Coopers’ essay “The Ecology of Writing” and wisdoms inspired by visionary poet-storytellers bell hooks, James Baldwin, Cole Arther Riley and Walela Nehanda. We’ll respond to prompts informed by our discussion to craft our own poetry and share out. Poets will learn to actualize our ideas by embracing our own ecologies, and alchemizing these connections holistically into the stories we tell.
This workshop is appropriate for writers of any genre and all levels but especially intended for those wanting to develop a reservoir of inspiration for storytelling and expanding the realm of possibility for their poetry.
