Class Description
Whether you’re a novelist, essayist, poet, or memoirist, you need to market yourself. In this seminar, we explore how a writer can connect with readers, editors, agents, and the media—including how to build an audience, put on events and speaking engagements, write query letters, and create a professional writerly presence both in person and on social media. You will also learn how to pitch yourself, and your op-eds/commentaries, to newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, and Internet media. Via lecture, discussion of packet materials, short exercises, and Q&A, we'll explore great ideas and best practices to help you professionalize yourself as a writer, and make sure people take notice of you and your work, which can lead to jobs, teaching, income, connections, book deals, and other opportunities to further boost your career.
Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
