Class Description
Whether you want to expand your knowledge, experiment with new forms, or just produce fresh work, this fun, intensive class will give you the opportunity, over six weeks, to write six new short stories (300 to 1000 words—also known as flash fiction) or new scenes that might be part of longer work. Each week, through a series of directed writing prompts, you’ll explore character development, plot, conflict, setting, dialog, etc., and in light workshop sessions, we’ll discuss these pieces together. Classes will also include further explorations of craft through analysis of short stories or excerpts from established authors. Writers we’ll consider may include Yiyun Li, Edwidge Danticat, Mariana Enríquez, Lesley Nneka Arimah and others.
Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
