Class Description

Whether you've never written creatively before or you're a more experienced writer looking for a recharge, this class will help you ignite your writing life through a comprehensive exploration of some of the top writing craft books. In this writing class, we’ll sample excerpts from highly rated writing guide books each week to see which have the best insights and most useful prompts. In-class exercises will ensure you’re creating new work, not just reading. We will set personalized writing goals and support each other in meeting these goals, in a generative and supportive environment. All participants will have an opportunity to read work in progress and get brief in-class constructive feedback. Class discussions will also help you decide which guides you'd like to keep learning from, and which aren’t for you.

We’ll look at books by authors including: Margot Livesey, Matthew Salesses, Bret Anthony Johnston, Courtney Maum, Julia Cameron, Jeff Vandermeer, John Gardner, Jericho Brown, and more.

Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
